How to read the result

Under 30% is the usual guidance and under 10% is better. The figure that matters is the one your lender reports, which is often the statement balance rather than what you owe after paying. If you clear the card every month and still show high utilization, pay before the statement closes rather than after.

Per-card utilization matters too, not just the total. One card maxed out can weigh on your file even when your overall figure looks healthy, which is why the table breaks it down both ways.

This is the fastest lever you have. It isn't the most important one — that's payment history, and nothing here substitutes for paying on time. But if you need movement before an application, this is where movement is available.
